Native Americans will not agree with the last. Smoke is an important substance to them. They burn bear berry, red willow, and tobacco and let the smoke rise as praise and gratitude for the Great Spirit.
Smoke spreads everywhere especially on a windy day. Although it becomes invisible as it mixes with ambient air, it still exists in such tiny particles, that it make years to settle. And, smoke can travel worldwide.

Smoke is fertilizer. It can land on snow and when the snow melts, carbon and other elements fertilize soil.
Hawks and eagles are also symbols of the Great Spirit. They glide, soar, dive and are at the top of their food chain. Native people respect these birds and use tail feathers of bald eagles as fans to usher in the presence of the Great Spirit. Indeed, our first people understand the importance of honoring all connections. The Bald Eagle along with smoke are sacred symbols of their life.
Today, smoke is mart of a noxious mixture called smog; burning oil; burning garbage; agent orange; tear gas; oil wells burning out of control; on and on. We are part of a community of smoke-filled atmosphere that can cause disease and death.
